The block came with new flat top pistons and the better LS6 rods. The cylinders look to have been re-honed even so a lot of my work has been done for me.
Next step is to get it packed up and sent to the machine shop to get balanced. No stroking or anything I just want an efficient and durable power plant for this build.
In case you didn’t know 243’s have a slightly bigger combustion chamber. In a non blown naturally aspirated build I would loose horse power. The 706’s however have a smaller combustion chamber so higher compression and HP. They have smaller valves than the 243’s but that should equate to higher air velocity which equates to better throttle response at lower rpm’s and torque tho not noticeably at the foot.
I found these 706 heads that had a valve job done, roller rockers, along with a little port work. I had already planned on doing much of this and have the bits to finish what they started so this was a perfect find. So what I plan on doing is raising the ceiling of the exhaust ports (gasket matching) and polishing them like a mirror. Then the intake is going to get matched to the gasket and the rocker boss bump removed with the throat smoothed but the bowel and swirl ramp left intact. I figure this will be the most effective way to port these heads for a naturally aspirated build.
I thought this was intimadating I mean after all those springs are under the full front load of the truck. Thats a lot of stored energy...
But thats nothign compared to how intimidated I am by the next phase. I will be taking a reciprocating saw to the front suspension mounts all the way to the frame.
